K9 Rescue Mission is an all breed rescue, our passion is rescuing pitbulls. K9 Rescue Mission is dedicated to areas in NW INDIANA that have an over abundance of strays and unwanted animals, due to not neutering/spay, abandonment, abuse or neglect. We are focused on helping people in these communities by offering low cost spay and neuter resources, saving abandoned animals and pulling from high kill shelters.

On December 11, 2011 we are holding a Holiday Pet Fair & Adoption Event. If you are Dyer, In that day, stop by - Goodies, Prizes, Pictures and oodles of dogs and cats to meet (and hopefully find some mommies & dadddies for them). Come help make the day a success!

my photographer friend - edda taylor (a lovely little woman) is doing something this christmas that i think is very nice.

for the holidays she is offering a free family session & an 8x10 for families with someone in the armed services who will be home this season - it's tough times for everyone & sometimes even tougher when part of the family is very far away sometimes doing such a dangerous job.
no strings attached & she really does some beautiful work (& i'm not just saying that because she's my friend - it really is fabulous).

anyway - i don't want to sound like a commercial but i think it's a nice gesture & thank you to the military families. so here is the web page:

i stopped by a fast food joint today (i don't normally but i was staaarving), ordered my sandwich, and waited patiently for it to be processed.
in that 2 minute window - large marge the manager on duty - took that time to (loudly) reprimand her underlings for turning their backs to the counter - evidently the protocol says at least one person should be facing front at all times. So it is ok for the "manager" ( this is a loose title - the broad was obnoxious and wanted to flaunt her authority ) to be rude but not the flunkies ( and truth be told - they were working & i was the only one at the counter ).
as a veteran of sucky jobs i can see a wannabe boss when they appear - sure half the time the
"employees" are useless but the other half are just trying to do their best and get the hell out.
rude is rude
(& i did say something - i don't want to listen to that - i'm not impressed)

so the groomer - holly - and i were discussing current events and such when a thought occured to us. it seems that labs (the labrador) is really the slut of the dog world - everyone who comes in with, what i like to call a "designer dog", a mix - mutt - crossed with - "it's a lab and something else but we don't know what", act like this is unusual. every dog it would seem is lab +. weird. they don't look like tarts? (btw we work at a dog boarding kennel so it is not really off topic for us)

on a side note, i met my first "bug" the other day - a mix of boston terrier/pug. really? did that have to happen. when god looked down and said "pug - that is good, boston terrier - that is good, should i mix them? aww bejesus no, that's just wrong." and she paid good money for him. i love pugs. i love bostons. i really do but this is not the best of both worlds. it's unnerving when he looks both east and west at the same time.

on a serious note - really, if you want an unusual dog go to the shelter - there are tons of one of kind dogs.

i really enjoy the westminnyster dog show. all those good lookin' dogs...
my snobish gripe - the shoes - i can't help but look at the gawd awful utilitarian patent leather loafer "shoes" - i know, look at the dog but the shoes are so very very bad.
i saw a couple sets of stylish footsies to match the sleek canines but everything else was toe horror.
someone help.

not to be a besmircher but i really think people are insane
lets talk current events - this repealing of the - lets just call it dumb - don't-ask-don't-tell policy
(do people listen to themselves before or after they state an opinion)
i'm not military so i don't have the same perspective i suppose but as far as my coworkers go i expect them to do their job. (period)
i don't ever remember begining any work related conversation with "i know your gay but do you think you can do your job?"
maybe i'm in the minority but i-don't-care.
if someone is lucky enough to find a person who can stand them even on their worst day - kudos.
and really - if you get a compliment - man or woman (or man/man or woman/woman) - someone thinks you are just ducky & wants to know if you like dinner - just be gracious & take the praise (do we always like everyone who asks us out?) - hell, any one who thinks my butt looks good today, well thank you (but i'm seeing someone)

i work for a boarding & training facility (dogs & cats of course).

we get many many many many calls from people about their wild and out of control dogs. my favorite so far is the woman who said her dog was out of control agressive and just kept biting. she stopped in with what can only be described as a tribble (from star trek) - a 10 week pomerianian mix - who was very aware of how cute she was & i don't know that i would use the word agressive in the same sentence with her name.

anyway - not to belittle the stress a puppy can cause

please don't yell at the puppies (or the babies either)

a woman came in (why they have to meltdown in public is beyond me) with a beautiful gray great dane who was very bold, very big, and very young. the woman started out ok - halfway thru the conversation she lost it and had a very nice hissy fit. i don't know if she kept the dog or not (she kept threatening to send it back to the rescue she got it from) but here is the deal - if you cannot do the work please don't get a dog.

if you think screaching is helping try having someone banshee yell at you and see how you react.

after stewing in my juices for a few days i have come to the oh so obvious conclusion that our fearless leaders have no spine.
not meeting with the dalai lama at this time - now IS the time
gays in the military (or anywhere else) - waiting is not going to change people's minds
sometimes stepping on toes has to happen when right is right and wrong is wrong.

i like to walk. i'm a big fan of walking, strolling, skipping - i like to ride my bike too. i take my dogs for walks. it's a nice relaxing thing to do.
living in a rural community, about 5 miles from nowheresville, i don't have the luxury of sidewalks or even roads that are still in one piece. walking has become an extreme sport. when i take my puppers for a walk i race the devil (or at least the cars that are trying to force me into the mud - we pray alot on our walks)
this is going to take a little thought & research as to why, oh why, my city and state and other govermenty types and those subdivision developers cannot find a way to build sidewalks to connect me to the city or town center so i can get a smoothie without having to drive.

i know - everyone is just about to burst with obamacitement - & why not - hype or not this is ground shaking and earth rattling. i do want to follow closely because if ever someone has alot to live up to - whoosh! well, i will at least use the positive outpourings to motivate my own self...i don't think i am going to rely on the higher ups to solve the problems

we shall see...

anyway, my twin pit bullies have decided that they would like to apply for the job as secret service dogs - they even have costumes.

they can run for a long time...?

Man shoots talker at movies, police say
the headline just says it all. i didn't even need or want to read the rest of the article (but i did). this just prickles me. really, like this soul has never kicked a seat, spilled pop all over the floor, or forgotten to turn off his cell phone. it's not a question of one thought v/s another. you do not take a weapon to a movie or a coffee shop or the library or any number of places and decide to shoot after the warning popcorn toss. i get annoyed by people too and usually will complain to the management and get a pass to see another movie or just suck it up. its a movie - was it really that good a flick?

well, this is it. the death of fantasy. living in phoenix i looked forward to snow and frosty goodness. i had forgotten wet toes. i had not figured into the equation my dogs not wanting to go for walks in the snow (it gets inbetween the paws). darn.

this is it. i've done it and created a blog. a little late to the game, sure, but now i can explode with curious rants of unbridled enthusiasm (wheee). i'm sure this will haunt me later - all the mistakes, the lapses in judgement, the poor spelling - or i'll just keep enthusiasticly ranting (a much better idea). until next time.
